Tuesday’s Teaser – Liar by K.L. Slater

Welcome to this week’s Teaser Tuesday!

The rules are simple:

    • Grab your current read
    • Open to a random page
    • Share one or two sentences from that page
    • Avoid spoilers – Pick a sentence that doesn’t give too much away

Today’s teaser comes from Liar, the latest book by K.L. Slater. I read Blink earlier in the year and loved it so I was keen to get my hands on this one.

Liar
About the Book
:
How far would you go to protect your family?

Single dad Ben is doing his best to raise his children alone, with the help of his devoted mother Judi. Life isn’t easy, but Judi’s family means everything to her and together, they manage.

Then Ben meets Amber. Everyone thinks this is a perfect match for Ben but Judi isn’t sure … there’s just something about Amber that doesn’t add up.

Ben can’t see why his mother dislikes his new girlfriend. And Amber doesn’t want Judi anywhere near her new family. Amber just wants Ben and the children.

The further Judi delves into Amber’s personal life, the closer she gets to shocking secrets that could change everything. And Judi must make a decision that could lead to the most disastrous consequences.

These are the first few sentences.

She stands very still, holding the knife. Her fingers press into the moist, sticky mess that covers the handle and thins to a trickle down her wrist.

The house is quiet and still, as if it’s holding its breath. She can hear the ticking of the wall clock and a low rumble now and then as a large vehicle passes by on the road outside.

She stares down at the woman crumpled on the floor before her. They have despised each other for so long, and towards the end there have been times she simply could not bear to look at her. Now, she cannot tear her eyes away. She is transfixed by the blossoming ruby-red halo that seeps from the dying woman’s head.

It couldn’t continue, this silent war between them. In the end, one of them had to go.

This is as far as I’ve got as of now (Monday night) but I think it sounds brilliant so I’m planning to get a few chapters in before I go to sleep!

Does this sound like something you’d want to read? Share a teaser from your own current read leave me a comment below!
