Top Ten Tuesday – Ten Books I Never Got Round To In 2017

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about those books that we totally meant to read last year but just never got around to. I took part in Six for Sunday last week which had a similar theme, you can find that post here! Today’s topic is a little bit wider, so while I’ll be avoiding the books from Sunday’s post I will be including books published before 2017 that I meant to read last year.

This week is the last week Top Ten Tuesday is being hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, it’s moving to That Artsy Reader Girl from next week. I’ve only been participating in the feature for a few months but I’d like to thank the girls for coming up with some great topics!

Ten Books I Meant To Read In 2017 But Didn’t Get To

(and totallyyyy plan to get to in 2018!!)

AID.pngAnd I Darken by Kiersten White

Having discovered that actually maybe I quite like the whole fantasy genre the premise of this one appealed to me. A ruthless princess ripped from her own land and planning her revenge? Sounds good to me, this is actually the first book in a series so if I like it there’s a couple more to catch up on.

AAArcadia Awakens by Kai Meyer

This one was recommended to me during a #SundayYA chat about international YA books. This is the first story in the Arcadia trilogy, originally written in German the blurb of the story mentions ancient myths, the mafia and bloodlust. It’s another potential dark fantasy I have high hopes for.

TBThe Burning by Jane Casey

I read Jane Casey’s latest book in the DI Maeve Kerrigan, Let The Dead Speak, last year. I really enjoyed it so I was determined to go back to the beginning and catch up with the series. I have this downloaded and sitting in my Kindle app but I’ve still not got around to starting it. My plan is to read it this month though.

TCTThe Crow Trap by Ann Cleeves

I’ve been watching the tv series Vera for a while now and last year I saw a boxset featuring five of the books the series is based on so I ordered it. They’ve been sitting on my bookshelf ever since so I really need to get started.

Ann is also the author behind the books the BBC’s crime drama Shetland is based on. Raven Black is the first book in that series. My boxset also contained the first five books in this series, so plenty to catch up on!

FLFragile Lives by Stephen Westaby

I don’t read that much non-fiction but I’ve always been fascinated by medicine and did my work experience with a thoracic surgeon, being in theatre with him remains a highlight so when I saw this, the memoir of a leading heart surgeon I was keen to read it. Still need to get round to buying it though!

GMOSAGGirls Made Of Snow And Glass by Melissa Bashardoust

I read an extract from this one in Buzz Books and it intrigued me. Billed as Frozen meets The Bloody Chamber it’s a Snow White retelling and I’m determined to pick it up at some point this year! Someone please hold me to it!

ldLittle Deaths by Emma Flint

I went to an event for Little Deaths at Waterstones in Edinburgh last year and a signed copy has been sitting on my bookcase ever since. The novel is inspired by a true story and sounds really interesting, I’m just terrible at reading books I actually buy!

TMThe Mayfly by James Hazel

This thriller caught my eye last year and it’s gotten a lot of great reviews. I think it’s meant to be the start of a series so I’m keen to pick it up before I end up 5 books behind!

TSEDThe Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury

This trilogy has been recommended to me more times than I can count so 2018 must be the year I get to it!

ASICA Study In Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

I am a huge, huge Sherlock Holmes fan, so this series featuring his great-great-great-granddaughter caught my eye. I think I’ll have to grab it from Amazon at some point because it doesn’t look like Waterstones stock it.

Some other books I really need to get around to reading

  • Cold Granite by Stuart MacBride – Another Scottish Crime series I’m keen to read. I grabbed Cold Granite while it was on a promotion and free from Amazon.
  • The Coldest Girl In Coldtown by Holly Black – Another edition to my TBR following my fantasy realisation. I don’t own this one yet but I did pick up Holly’s latst book The Cruel Prince last week so hopefully I’ll get round to reading both this year
  • Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge – After reading Heartless last year I became a little intrigued by re-tellings. This one is inspired by Beauty and the Beast. Rosamund has a second book inspired by Little Red Riding Hood so hopefully I’ll enjoy this.
  • Lawless and the Devil of Euston Square by William Sutton – I saw a review for this one and it intrigued me, historical crime fiction set in London sounds really interesting.
  • Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst – Another fantasy that was recommended and I’m keen to get my hands on.
  • Queen of Hearts by Collen Oakes – Another re-telling of Alice In Wonderland based around the Queen of Hearts. The first in a trilogy I bought eBook just before Christmas so I’m keen to get to it in the next couple of months.
  • The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine – Inspired by Snow White (are you seeing a pattern here yet?) The Shadow Queen is the first in a series of novels, each inspired by a different tale.

That’s my top ten (plus a few more) books I put on my TBR during 2017 but never quite got around to reading. Are there any one here I really need to prioritise? Which books did you have every intention of reading but never quite got to last year? Let me know in the comments!

With Love Sarah
